I have a Blog

As part of the Web 2.0 training, I have created this blog. The training team posed a series of topics for our first post and the one I have chosen is 'Can I see a use for blogs in libraries'.
I viewed half-a-dozen blogs before creating this one and they all contained information on a variety of topics. One was a local history site, that presented information about a local landmark or person and then invited people to contribute any information they might have about that landmark or person. This allows people who may have moved away to another area to contribute their knowledge from anywhere in the world.
The library blogs I viewed, carried book reviews, events, interesting items from youtube (Checkout http://southperthlibrary.wordpress.com/and look for Smell like a Monster). The information was current and informative. It is quick and easy to post on a blog, your information is available straight away and you have saved a few trees not printing out posters & flyers.
This is also a great way to share information with colleagues and with this in mind I would like to share the following piece I was reading today.
"The library is not a collection of books it is a collection of containers which contain knowledge. This may certainly be in the form of books but it can also be in the form of newspapers, databases, journals, three dimensional realia or access to the Internet. " Phil Bradley is talking about Information and the way we can provide it to our customers. It makes you realise how important it is to develop your skills in all these areas.
